The first was an elderly couple who had wondered whether they might be too old to get involved in a church plant. It was great to see them serve with such passion and enthusiasm on the Welcome team of their church plant, Redeemer London, at its official launch a couple of weeks ago. What an example of two people still up for the adventure of being involved in the mission that Jesus calls each one of us on.
The other couple, involved in a different church plant, Gateway Church Basingstoke, must only have been in their twenties or thirties. They had got involved in a church plant because as Christians they simply thought that they could ‘be Christians’ in Basingstoke as opposed to ‘being Christians’ wherever it was they had been living before. Again, what an inspiring example of a radical couple up for the adventure of being involved in the mission that Jesus calls each one of us on.
Of course, you don’t have to move or be involved in a church plant to be radical or join in the adventure of making disciples and seeing Jesus build His church. But equally, you don’t need to be radical or extraordinary to get involved in a church plant and play a part in seeing the kingdom of God extended in a new town or location. As Joyce Meyers puts it, “God is not looking for people with ability but people with availability.”
I wonder … how available or open to God are you? What adventure is He calling you to start playing a part in this year?
